Whistler Exciting News and Developments

Exciting and Positive News in Whistler 

Despite the multiple challenges the tourism industry across the globe and some specific ones closer to home here in Whistler, we have so many exciting and positive events and milestones to celebrate.  The Whistler Real Estate market has been affected and had it's challenges lately as well.  All markets will rebound and Whistler is poised to take advantage as soon as it begins.  Here are some of the the latest positive developments as listed by Tourism Whistler:

  • Whistler Blackcomb just launched the spectacular, world record-breaking Peak 2 Peak gondola, an iconic attraction for both winter and summer;
  • Whistler has two amazing new 2010 venues in the Whistler Olympic Park Nordic trails and day lodge, and in the new Whistler Sliding Centre, a wonderful attraction for spectators;
  • Whistler will be hosting nine World Cup Sport Events from January though March 2009 (including cross-country skiing, biathlon, Nordic combined, ski jumping, bobsleigh, skeleton, luge and alpine);
  • an expanded Whistler Winter Arts Festival in February will mark the one-year countdown to the 2010 Games;
  • increased snow-making at Whistler Creekside's Dave Murray Downhill run, as a result of 2010 investment, provides additional ski-in, ski-out access and reliability;
  • the new Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre provides a local First Nations arts and culture attraction;
  • gasoline prices have decreased the cost of drive travel to Whistler;
  • gasoline surtaxes have been removed from many key airlines, decreasing the overall cost of air travel;
  • upgrades to the Sea-to-Sky Highway 99 are 75% complete, improving access for our guests; and
  • the Canadian/ U.S. exchange rate offers excellent value to our U.S. guests, at a time when we need it most!
