Whistler Olympic Transportation Plan

Full details Click: 2010 Transportation Plan for Whistler and Vancouver

The Whistler Games transportation highlights include:

  • Facilitated local permitting in neighbourhoods close to venues to ensure easy access for residents and Olympic client services.
  • Routing modifications to increase the efficient flow of traffic in the Village and surrounding neighbourhoods (primarily near venues).
  • Reduction in background vehicle traffic on Highway 99 and in the Village as there will be significantly reduced parking in Whistler. Public transit services, including WAVE service, will dramatically increase.
  • expanded bus routes from 39 to 135 buses, between Whistler, Squamish, and Pemberton
  • around the clock bus serve in the corridor    improved frequency on eight existing routes
  • five to 10 minute frequency during peak hours
  • 15 to 30 minute frequency during late night hours
  • new, community bus services on five neighbourhood routes
  • new, frequent 2010 Olympic Express route on Highway 99
  • goal of having bus stops within a 10 minute walking distance of 90 per cent of the neighbourhoods in Whistler
  • augmented service to events at Whistler Creekside and the Whistler Sliding Centre on competition days
  • introduction of hydrogen bus fleet
  • pre-paid tickets and passes available for the Games, including a monthly souvenir pass
  • Increased maintenance and grooming of the Valley Trail to promote walking and cross-country skiing.

Additional travel time will be required during the Games, no matter what mode of transportation is used, and walking, cycling and taking transit will be the fastest modes to get around.
